Central animal house facility
Chandigarh College of Pharmacy is officially registered with the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA), under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, and Government of India. This registration covers activities related to educational research, (Registration No. 1201/PO/Re/S/08/CPCSEA).
The Central Animal Facility is a two-story building designed with a 'two-way corridor system' to minimize cross-contamination and enhance the efficiency of animal house operations. Each species is housed in separate rooms to avoid inter-species disease transmission and reduce stress from interspecies conflicts. The facility maintains strict environmental controls with temperature regulated at 23±3°C, relative humidity between 30-70%, a 12:12 light-dark cycle, and 100% fresh air exchange. Both macro- and micro-environmental conditions comply with CPCSEA guidelines.
Regular cleaning and disinfection of animal rooms, corridors, and storage areas are performed, with animal supplies such as cages, water bottles, and bedding being routinely cleaned and sterilized. The health of the animals is periodically assessed, and feed and water are analyzed for quality and microbiological safety.
